Confirmation Camp June 12-17

The Confirmation program at First UMC provides preparation for youth 8th grade and up to choose to declare their faith in Christ and commit to a life of Christian discipleship. Our program begins with a week at Camp Wesley Woods to help our youth grow together as a class and get a feel for what the year is all about. Last year's confirmation campers have great memories of swimming at the lake, horseback riding, morning devotions, and having fun getting to know each other and other confirmation students from around Iowa.

This year, Confirmation Camp will be June 12-17 and will be open to current 7th graders and older. We will be taking a van, so any children or youth who need a ride to or from Wesley Woods that week should contact either Pastor Sean or Ellen Johnsen. Also, if you have any questions about Confirmation at First UMC please contact Pastor Sean.

ASP Location Announced!

This summer our Appalachia Service Project team is once again headed to Perry County, Kentucky. This will be our third time in four years working at one of the ASP centers in Perry County. Long time volunteers can attest to the changes and improvements in infrastructure of the region in which we work, but this trip will give most of our returning volunteers a chance to reconnect with a county they are familiar with.

We do have a wonderful team of volunteers already beginning to make preparations for the trip. Our team of 43 youth and adults from Ames First UMC, Nevada First UMC and the surrounding area are busy with educational, team-building, and fundraising activities. If you would like to make a direct contribution to this year’s trip, you can become a part of our extended team effort by purchasing “ASP Stock” at $10 per share. Please contact Pastor Sean for more information.
